Marvin McCoy first started McCoy's Horn Library (in lieu of a better name) in 1977 with a few of his own horn quartet arrangements and two Alphorn works. At the prompting of Frøydis Wekre, he published some of her favorite encore pieces in three volumes. Later, he sought out other horn players for additional transcriptions and other horn players looked to him to make their editions available. Deciding to retire from the publishing business, he could think of no better way to continue this work than to turn it over to his daughter Terry Preston.

Marvin McCoy attended the University of Iowa and studied horn with Paul Anderson and later with Philip Farkas and Frøydis Wekre.  Marv played Horn with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Chicago Little Symphony, Lyra Concert (a local Baroque ensemble), Henry Mancini, Andy Williams and others.  He regularly performs with his Alphorn at festivals, symposiums (national and international) and private affairs such as weddings and family events.  Marv has taught at many Minnesota colleges and privately since 1960.  He also has operated an instrument repair business since 1969.

On April 30, 2008, Marvin passed away.  A memorial service was held on May 3, with the most glorious horn music.  There was a 10-piece horn quartet and an alphorn duo.  The family is very grateful to all those who came to celebrate his life and share their music and their thoughts.

Terry McCoy Preston and her husband, Paul, raise Scottish Highland cattle, chickens, and farm cats (lots of cats) on their farm in rural Houston, Minnesota. Terry played oboe in the high school band and orchestra, sang in the church choir, and strummed her guitar as a Girl Scout camp counselor. She continues to entertain the cattle with her singing and guitar playing.

The web site is maintained by Terry's sister, Linn McCoy Kezer.  Linn is a flutist and soprano.  She lives in the Washington DC metropolitan area (Manassas, VA for you history buffs) where her husband provides computer security to the federal government.
